A realization, a slab, and a fence.

So I just realized that if you fall behind with this Blog stuff then you end up forgetting to make a post and then you post them out of order. Anyway, this is what 170 bags of concrete (60 lbs each) look like upon delivery in your front yard...

...and this is what the same 10,000 lbs of concrete bags looks like once you shuttle them all into the backyard.

Here is Sarah with the mixer that we rented...the process was pretty much: empty bags into mixer, add water, spin, pour, screed, and repeat.

Well, it is far from perfect but it is done! We were both incredibly sore and irritable by the end of this, but we were able to clean up and enjoy a beer afterward. And besides, it is just the base for the stone that we plan to lay down next spring.

Next step...close the gap between our yard and the neighbor's yard with a rebuilt section of fence. That's better. We put longer fence posts in to accomodate a trellace/arbor type of thing at the top. Maybe we'll plant some grape vines or something up there to fill in the gap and provide a little bit more privacy.
